Light is necessary for photosynthesis, a process that is vital for all life on earth. Since plants cannot grow in the absence of light, it affects their distribution. This , in turn , affects the distribution of the organisms that are directly or indirectly associated with it. Among both plants and animals , there are shade tolerant and light loving species.
Light affects the activities of animals in various ways. Most animals are active during the day, while some like bats and cockroaches come out at night. Aquatic animals prefer darker waters during the day and only come up to surface waters at night.
