Specially designed fuses are fitted on the HV line supports called H.T. fuses or swivel fuses. These fuses drip off when excess current, as a result of fault, flows through it.
Other safety devices for H.T. transmission system include earth leakage circuit breaker. It operates as follows : when the electricity supply is on by operating the circuit breaker knob to :ON' position, the load, I.e. the appliances and other points connected to the circuit breaker receive electricity supply, and work normally. As soon as a leakage occurs from the live part to the framework of any appliance switched on, the leakage current will flow very quickly through the trip coil and cut the faulty circuit off from the supply. This saves the consumer from any risk of shock.
