This is a tube from which air has been evacuated. If we can pass free electrons into a vacuum tube, then there will be no disturbance to oppose the speed at which these free electrons will travel. This means that all the energy of these free electrons will be passed to any point within the vacuum. They will be hitting such points like bullets. The early vacuum tube is made of glass, and equipped with two electrodes between which electrons can move freely. The cathode is the heated filament that emits electrons through thermionic emission. The anode is the electron collecting elements. Before the transistor was developed, vacuum tunes were used extensively in the operation of devices such as televisions and radios.
