AIDS is the abbreviation or an acronym for Acquired immune deficiency syndrome. It is a disease in which the immune system of the human body is completely broken down, thus rendering the body unable to fight against disease causing micro organisms that attack it. These micro organisms cause infections known as "opportunistic infections" (OI) - Diseases caused by taking advantage of a weakened of damaged immune system of the body. AIDS is at present the most deadly sexually transmitted disease.
