Social class have several characteristics namely:
1) Social class are hierarchical. Social class exists as a position on a social scale.
2) Social class have status. Status means relative ranking of each class according to criteria importance to the society.
3) Social class serve as a frame of reference for individual norms,attitude and behaviour. Membership in a social imparts specific norms, attitudes,and behaviour.
4) Social class are dynamic. It is possible for an individual to move on the social scale.
5) Social class discourage contact with members of other class groups. People tend to maintain contact with others who have the same values and patterns of behaviour. Such an association can be comfortable and reinforcing.
