The Conductor I of insulated cables, as used for house wiring or equipment (kettle, refrigerator, cooker, etc.) , is composed of high conductivity annealed copper wire. In case of overhead transmission Libes, where weight and mechanical strength have to be considered, hard drawn copper conductors are used. For very high voltage transmission, species conductors of aluminum or copper stranded round a tensile centre are mostly used. Circular conductors are obtained only by stranding layers of wire round the one in the centre. The number of wires so stranded is varied according to the size of conductor ultimately required.
