Tolerance

We know that abiotic factors play an important role in the distribution of living organisms in the various terrestrial and aquatic habitats of the world. Some of these factors include temperature, rain (availability of moisture) , light intensity, salinity and edaphic factors. Each of these factors occurs over a range In the various habitats. For example, temperature can range from -25 to 0°C in the polar ice caps, and from 15 to 50°C in the hot deserts. Living organisms can only live in a particular habitat if they can tolerate the ranges of the abiotic factors that operate in it.
