Frequency
The plant species of the area under survey should be first carefully studies and recorded. The quadrat is then randomly tossed at at part of the selected habitat. A tick is made against the species as they appear within the Quadrat. Several tosses of the Quadrat are made to have a better representation of the species. The frequency of a species can be determined by the total number of times the species appeared in the number of plots covered by the quadrat.
The frequency percentage of the species is determined by dividing the number of plots in which the species occurs by the total number of tosses of the Quadrat and multiplying by a hundred.
Example
Number of plots in which andropogon sp. Occurred = 25
Total number of tosses = 75
Frequency percentage = 25÷75 x 100
= 1÷4 x 100 = 33.33%
