Turbidity

Turbidity is caused by the presence of suspended matter in water. Clear water has low turbidity. Light can penetrate to a greater depth below the water surface in less turbid waters. This is important as it affects the distribution of photosynthesis organisms in an aquatic ecosystem.

In fresh water ecosystems, turbidity increases during the rainy season as a lot of debris is washed from the soil into the water bodies.
