A healthy nation contributed greatly to the economic progress of a country. Maintaining the health of the people in a country is the responsibility of the individual, the community, the government and health organizations.
We have seen how an individual can contribute to the maintenance of good health in a community. An individual contribution is important in both rural and urban areas. The community plays an important role in the maintenance of public health in rural areas. In urban areas, the government is responsible for public health. The following are important in the maintenance of good public health:
• refuse and sewage disposal
• protection of water supply and provision of clean water;
• food hygiene;
• control of disease; and
• health organisation.
