FAO was established in 1945 and has its headquarters in Rome, Italy. The main function of FAO is to raise living standards and improve the production of agricultural products. It collects, analyses and compiled information related to nutrition, food and agriculture. Representatives from the member countries meet to discuss the efficiency of the production and distribution of food and agricultural products.
FAO initiates programmes for developing countries to improve the quality and the quantity of their food production. Currently, the main problem facing FAO Is the production of sufficient food in the wake of natural disasters such ad floods and drought.
