Television

A television set is a device that receives radio signals and change's them into sounds and pictures. The moving pictures that we see on the screen are basically a series of still pictures that appear very quickly after one another. The speed of change from one static picture to the other can be as high as 25 or 30 per second. Hence, these static picture are able to merge together, and make a moving picture.

The commonest method of receiving television programmes in our country is terrestrial television broadcasting. The roof top aerial received signal broadcast from the transmitting aerial. Many transmitting aerials are spread over the country. Through this one move from one programme to the other.

A more modern method of receiving television signals directly in our homes is via satellite. The satellite, located at 35,880 Km above the earth, beams television programmes to reception dishes at individual homes. Hence, it is Transfered as the 'direct to home' or DTH satellite. The satellite is permanently in contact with reception dishes within its coverage area, which  may involve millions of users.
