To conserve the soil requires the following methods:
• Control of soil erosion by water or wind;
• Improving soil fertility through manuring;
• avoid overgrazing, over cultivation and over cropping;
• avoid indiscriminate felling of trees (deforestation);
• improved agricultural practice/crop rotation and planting of cover crops;
• avoid soil pollution by oil spillage, dumping of effluents and chemical from industries, metal scraps/plastic/ polythene materials, radioactive wastes and other pollutants;
• afforestation for prevention of wind erosion and desertification.
